Pier launches Mr Brain’s campaign to allow “faggots” on Facebook

The recent furore over Facebook banning users for talking about faggots has led Mr Brain’s to launch a campaign, devised and implemented by Pier, urging Facebook to allow the word “faggot” in the UK.

Facebook initially banned one man for writing “I like faggots” but whilst he has been reinstated and Facebook has explained it was a misunderstanding Mr Brain’s has highlighted that Facebook still bans the use of the word “faggot” in its advertising.

A spokesperson for Mr Brain’s commented: “We’re really sympathetic to Facebook’s need to monitor offensive words, but in the UK faggots are a favourite meal amongst lots of families. Surely there must be a way that Facebook can allow us to talk about a traditional British dish?”

Faggots are made from minced pork and pork liver based on a traditional West Country recipe.  Over 16million packs of Mr Brain’s Faggots are sold a year and Mr Brain’s has over 2,000 Likes on Facebook (www.facebook.com/tastymrbrains).

The team behind Mr Brain’s is now contacting Facebook to see if they can persuade them to allow the word faggot to be used in the UK. Mr Brain’s is also urging Brits to help the campaign by downloading banners and posters from www.mrbrains.co.uk/news/ and to “Like” their campaign on Facebook to show how many people want Facebook to change.

Mr Brain’s spokesperson continued: “We appreciate that Facebook has to act responsibly concerning comments posted on their site but we urge them to allow us to talk about a much loved British dish.”
