Pier appointed by Stromar Floating Offshore Wind Project in North-east Scotland

An exciting new client for our renewables team

We’re pleased to announce that Pier has been appointed by the Stromar Floating Offshore Wind project to deliver a programme of communications and community engagement activities in the north east of Scotland.

Stromar is a joint venture comprising industry leaders Ørsted, BlueFloat Energy and Renantis which leverages Ørsted’s expertise in offshore wind development with BlueFloat Energy’s knowledge in floating wind projects and Renantis’ pioneering community engagement approach in Scotland.

The Stromar project could produce up to 1 gigawatt of green electricity, which is enough to power the equivalent needs of close to one million homes annually, and when complete, will be one of the world’s largest floating offshore wind farms. Located approximately 50km offshore near Caithness, Stromar could also contribute significantly to Scotland and the UK’s Net Zero targets while also creating lasting career opportunities and boosting the local supply chain.

Stephanie Clark, Pier’s head of renewables, said, “Securing the Stromar project is a significant achievement for Pier. Floating offshore wind represents a major advancement in renewables, and we’re thrilled to lead the way by supporting key developments across this emerging sector.

“Our collaboration with global leaders driving innovation in floating offshore wind technology, is incredibly exciting. We have a great team with a proven track record in community engagement across the UK.”

Nicholas Ritchie, Stromar Project Director (pictured), said: “Fostering strong community relationships is paramount for our Stromar team and we’re really pleased to be working with Pier to ensure that local voices are heard and valued throughout the development phase. Scotland has a fantastic opportunity to lead the world in floating offshore wind and reap the benefits of lasting job creation and economic growth through its supply chain.”

Floating offshore wind enables turbines to be placed in much deeper waters with stronger and more consistent winds. By being one of the first countries to deliver floating offshore wind at scale, Scotland can be at the forefront with its local businesses supporting jobs and exporting goods and services.
