Since launching our paid internship scheme we have welcomed many future stars of PR through our doors, and 2016 was no exception.
When our latest pair of new recruits started as interns last summer, we soon realised we had found some serious talent. Abigail Kaines and Georgia Memory made up this PR savvy dream team, impressing everyone with their hard-work and positive attitudes. As a result, both have recently been promoted to account assistants and have now joined the Pier team on a permanent basis.
Interns like Abigail and Georgia support the rest of the team with many areas of client work. Whether that’s researching opportunities, writing copy, managing social media accounts or speaking to journalists, there is plenty to keep them busy.
To help polish their PR skills they are regularly sent on industry-accredited training courses and are encouraged to carry on learning at work using online courses.
Congratulations to both of our brand-new account assistants. Find out more about them below.
Abigail Kaines
We head-hunted Abigail after spotting her potential on LinkedIn, and she soon made her mark after joining us in July. Creative Writing graduate Abigail had journalism, PR and publishing experience and from the very beginning offered real value to our clients.
She said: “From client meetings and brainstorming ideas, to writing copy and liaising with the press, every day at Pier is different and presents new opportunities. Like so many graduates, I finished university with the message: get a job – any job! A daunting task, but I’m so glad that I started out with an internship at Pier, where my learning is valued and I’m encouraged to step out of my comfort zone.”
Georgia Memory
Georgia contacted Pier looking for work experience in late 2015, and joined Pier as an intern shortly after graduating with a degree in Events Management in the summer. With first-rate research and organisational skills, Georgia quickly proved herself invaluable to the team.
Georgia said: “Although lots of people doing events management on my degree wanted to go into wedding planning, that wasn’t for me and I could see there was much more diversity working in PR and marketing. Thinking of new creative ways to help our clients and being part of a large product launch campaign for Iceland have been just a couple of the highlights so far and I am really looking forward to what the future brings.”
