Pier secures raft of coverage on SPR WW1 u-boat discovery

It’s been a busy few days at Pier as our story for client ScottishPower Renewables’ discovery and identification of a WW1 German U-boat off the coast of East Anglia has hit the headlines.

Kicking off with a great piece secured on ITV Anglia, ITV national news and Good Morning Britain’s regional news, the team at Pier organised and managed interviews to be conducted on a survey vessel in the North Sea. The team has since secured coverage in the likes of The Telegraph online, Mirror online, Mail Online, Sky News and BBC News. Regional media have done us proud too, with a front cover story and two great double page spreads in the East Anglian Daily Times and the Eastern Daily Press, as well as an interview on Radio Suffolk’s Breakfast Show.

Director Kate Bowden Smith comments, “A lot of hard work went into the preparation of this story, and we’re delighted there’s been such interest on a global, national and regional basis. The seabed scanning that resulted in the discovery 90km off the coast was part of routine activity being undertaken for the development of windfarm projects in the East Anglia Zone, and it’s fantastic it has been greeted with such interest.”

Charlie Jordan, East Anglia ONE project director at ScottishPower Renewables adds: “unravelling the whole story behind the submarine has been fascinating and it’s heartening to know that the discovery will provide closure to relatives and descendants of the submariners lost, who may have always wondered what had happened to their loved ones.”
